Well, I didn’t believe it was possible, but I guess I’ve just had too much good in my life lately, because today the universe was really trying to get me down. Luckily I was able to turn (most) frowns upside-down.
I think all the trouble started last night as I was thinking about how wonderful the day had been! I pulled out a clean towel from the pantry and accidently knocked over the Brown Rice Syrup I had just purchased the day before. Even worse, I’ve never bought the stuff before and finally bit the bullet and paid a ridiculous price to try it out. Imagine cleaning up a sticky pile of earwax… that’s kind of what it was like in my imagination.
On to today’s Ups and Downs…
Down Side- When running late and taking the time to make a delicious and healthy green smoothie, I accidentally knocked the whole glass over to create a slime-green coated kitchen accompanied by lots and lots of small glass shards.
Pre-spill. Such great potential.
Up Side- My kitchen cabinets and doors received a thorough wipe-down… let’s just say it’s been a long time coming.
Down Side- After changing out of my smoothie covered clothes, I put on a brand new pair of black nylons, only to put a huge run in them. Too bad, I’m running too late to change again, I’ll just have to deal with it and act like it happened once I was at school.
Up Side- A conversation with my students on useful purposes for re-using nylons. Run in my undergarments apparently = environmentalists in the making.
Down Side- I didn’t get to eat my lunch before digital photography club and was STARVING (since after the smoothie incident I didn’t have a chance to prepare a snack.)
Up Side- My digital photography club goers were finally able to see that I do occasional eat food which they might recognize.
Down Side- After seeing my doctor about my jaw pain, she referred me for an immediate after-hours appointment with a jaw specialist. I literally ran (panicking about what could be so horrible about my jaw that I need to see a specialist immediately?) to the other office only to get there and find out that the doctor had already left for a meeting with another doctor.
Up Side- It must not be as bad as I feared or else he would have stayed. I also got a bit of exercise while missing my favorite gym class. AND I saw a beautiful part of Bonn I’d never been to before.
Down Side- I bought a ton of groceries and they were really heavy and the bus came 10 minutes late.
Up Side- I can add strength training to my impromptu work out.
Down Side- I came home to put the groceries away only to find that the condiments shelf in my refrigerator had broken, making a mess of the dairy shelf below.
Up Side- The refrigerator is now as clean as the cabinets!
Down Side- After rushing to bed to watch my favorite German tv show, “Das Perfekte Dinner,” I noticed a huge smear of fresh blood on the blankets. Apparently I hadn’t done a very good job at cleaning up the glass shards this morning and cut the bottom of my foot open.
Up Side- Fresh bedding can be added to the “recently cleaned” list.
Down Side- I was hungry and lazy.
Up Side- My random concoction of noodles, tofu, broccoli, milk, water, curry powder, and Knorr mix turned out to taste pretty good!
Down Side- After all of the mishaps and messes of today, my kitchen counters were piled high with dishes.
Up Side- Now the kitchen sparkles from top to bottom. All starting back at stage 1!
Hopefully that will do it for the ups and downs of today and tomorrow will be a bit more mellow. To put karma back in order, I’d like to send you away with beautiful pictures from the wonderful day I had yesterday!
The Poppelsdorfer Schloss in Bonn has the most beautiful gardens. I can not wait for their gates to be open again!
Spring is in the air!
