Flooded Rhine

I’m sorry I haven’t been keeping you up to date lately. I arrived back in Germany on Saturday the 8th after 3 wonderful weeks back home with my family.

P1092643 This is the sunset that welcomed me back to my German home.

Over the past week, I’ve been incredibly busy settling into school again. The planning and preparation needed at the beginning of a term is tremendous. On top of that, reports are due in two weeks so the home workload is just that much more stressful.

Nevertheless, I’m still here blogging into my second year!

Today I went on a trip to the other side of the Rhine to celebrate my friend, Rosetta’s, birthday. She hosted a wonderful brunch at a local bistro.

P1162720 You may remember the town of Linz and Rosetta from this post.

P1162713 Rosetta is the friend I took photos for as a baby gift.

P1162716 Her partner, Guido, still talks about the photos and thanks me again and again every time I see him. Their daughter, Lily Rose, has grown so much. It’s hard to believe she’s almost 6 months old.

We had a great brunch catching up with Rosetta and getting to know her ‘other’ friends.

Getting to Linz was a bit of a challenge today.

You see, Germany has been experiencing warm weather lately which has caused the snow to melt. Combine that with the rain we’ve had and suddenly, the Rhine is flooded.

P1162711 All of the direct roads into Linz are closed do to the flood. We luckily found a road through the forest and over the hills to get into Linz from the back side.

What usually looks like this…

P7277955 now looks like this…

P1162725 Comparatively, this flood is nothing, check out where the water level reached in 1658.

P1162728 The years along the tower wall show the water level during the floods of those years. Crazy, huh?

P1162731

The flood didn’t stop the nearby antique store from opening its doors.

Whichever way you look at it, Linz is a gorgeous town, flooded or not.
